It was an honour to make what has turned out to be a beautiful film about an Art Exhibition dedicated to the 90th birthday of Rosamunde Pilcher, author of famous novel The Shell Seekers.

Filming started at 6:30am on the coastline of North Cornwall to capture some of what has inspired the author and artists including the sunrise over the dunes at Summerleaze Beach. The interview sessions were held in the gallery itself with 3 excellent contributing artists who were all lit by as much natural light as possible, augmented by subtle lighting to pick out the eyes and ensure a delicate separation between them and the background.

Attention to detail in colour grading and some very tight audio editing have been employed to create a very relaxed and ‘open’ feel to the piece, along with a lovely device to annotate the passage from the book that inspired the artist. Tears were shed, and joy and respect flowed throughout the filming and photography all done by Fatcalf.

The exhibition was held at The Castle Bude Heritage Centre next to the stunning Summerleaze beach in the Cornish town of Bude. This gallery was curated by Lynne Holehouse of SeventhWaveGallery and Debbie Cousins from BudeWorks. 30 artists featured, 60 pieces displayed. All to honour a special lady…
